Skincare routines, it’s an ingrained term in the skincare industry. As the body is not static and changes from day to day and in fact, all throughout your life, I’ve always found the term “routine” made me feel hemmed in and missing the actual point of caring for your skin.
So what do I think? I think you pick a staple that’s addressing an important recurring issue everyday and you sit with that and address other issues as they arise.
So using a cleanser, yes, that’s essential and easy to achieve in the shower. We make a lot of different types of face cleansers to address all sorts of problems and personal preferences. Foaming face wash, milky washes, milky clay washes, oil cleansers. Most of the time you will sit with one cleanser and throughout your life you will likely progress to more nourishing type cleansers. The usual progression is Soft Face Wash in teens and early 20’s, then Soft Clay Wash, then usually by later 20’s Milk Cleanser is what people love to use for a good 15yrs or more. Then into late 40’s and 50’s people get the deeper nourishment of a Cleansing Oil and this is where they stay.
So you’ve cleansed in the shower and now you’ve stepped out and dried off. Now what? What’s most important now? One moisturiser that does a lot. Luminous 15% if you really are best with using one product and making sure it is darn good and punchy.

You get the idea. You clean your skin gently once or twice day and replace those oils and fats you washed away with fresh clean ones and I’ve always thought it good practise to keep a steady supply of vitamins on the skin daily so good growth can occur at all times. This is the basis why I created Luminous. Then you change and adapt to any events that occur.
Worked in the garden Saturday and skin has been sweaty, dirty and rough – add Rectifying Serum under Luminous.
Was in the sun for hours on Sunday and am a little red – use Vit C&A Oil instead of Luminous.
I am feeling quite run down and skin is dull and gray looking – use Rectifying Serum and Vit C&A Oil instead of Luminous.
My skin is feeling dry this week – use Resplendent instead of Luminous, or use Hydrating Serum under luminous.
I have a small red patch near my mouth and nose – use Rectifying Serum under Resplendent.
I have some congestion that I can feel – use Rectifying under Luminous for about three days.
I am red on my face from being at the beach today – use Vit C&A Oil mixed into some Luminous with Hydrating Serum
It’s my time of the month and my skin has no lustre – use Cleansing Oil followed by Hydrating serum and Resplendent
You may experience one of these in a week or more. You may not experience any of them for weeks but you have resources to deal with them and a few products help with mulitple types of situations. In between you are as simple as a cleanser and a moisturiser, day in, day out.
Rather than a set skincare routine that is rigid, you have a simple core of products you use everyday and then a Toolbox of products you can draw on when other problematic events arise. Fluid, reactionary, comprehensive and moving with your body.
A comprehensive Toolbox would include:
Rectifying Serum
Vit C&A Oil
Resplendent
These three cover situations of increased sun exposure, a vitamin depletion event, sudden dehydration and dryness, emerging congestion, skin roughness, fluctuations in skin redness.
If you frequently fall into period where skin is more reactionary with redness and thinness then a toolbox for you may look like:
Hydrating Serum/Rose & Orange Toner
Resplendent
Rectifying
Certainly I am still approachable to help you with making the right choices here for what your life is like.
If we are treating specific ongoing conditions such as sun related skin damage then there are certain compounds that need to be on the skin consistently and that is the vitamins, Niacinamide, Vit C, Vit A, Vit E. In this instance you would use, after cleansing, a niacinamide product, then Luminous and then at night Vit C&A Oil and this would be daily and ongoing if you really want to make a substantial impact.
If we are treating quite acute specific skin conditions such as eczema and acne, rosacea a more involved routine is required as we ardently try to overcome abnormalities and return to a normal skin biology.
However for the vast majority of us we have skin that is behaving normally most of the time, and changes, as long as addressed timely, are not permanent or long lasting issues.
So rejoice in simplicity, address issues well and as they occur and enjoy a more unburdened skin life.
